  1. The myth of Queen Heo Hwang-ok has always been a legend I thought would show up soon in saeguk form – especially since Korean dramas are having a hard time in China right now. I think I’ve read that the Indian market is the next highest market for Korean productions. Also, it is a very romantic legend with bits about dreams, consolidating kingdoms and the introduction of Buddhism. This seems like it would appeal to lots of viewers! Really enjoyed this last podcast . . .

    1. That’s a good hypothesis. It makes sense that they would look for another market since China is such a large audience base for them. Indian also has a large population in her north eastern parts whose ethno-cultural identity aligns closely with East Asian people. Not that Korean dramas are only watched by them. In the last two years, there’s been an explosion of mainstream love for KDs in India.
